Printify vs Printful vs Gelato: which one to choose in 2026?
Three websites that look alike, three very different ways of working. Prices, turnaround, shipping, samples, with tables, and my take on choosing without losing a week over it.

At night, three paths lead to a market of print stalls, a large workshop and a globe dotted with small workshops.
MagicMoon · EditorialThe short version
- For a first store, none of the three is a bad choice: pick the one that lets you publish tonight.
- Printify and Printful have belonged to the same group since 2024, but they remain two separate services.
- Printify is a marketplace of print providers, Printful a workshop that mostly makes things itself, Gelato a dispatcher that has products made close to your customers.
- All three are free to start; their paid plans only really pay off once you are selling.
- Print quality cannot be judged from any web page: order a sample.
Printify vs Printful vs Gelato: my short answer
If you are reading this, you probably have three tabs open. Printify, Printful, Gelato. And the feeling that your whole store rides on this choice.
I will be frank: for a first store, this choice matters a lot less than people think. 🙂
All three are free. All three connect to Etsy, Shopify and WooCommerce. All three print on demand. You cannot go wrong with any of them.
So why a whole article? Because behind three websites that look alike, there are three very different ways of working. And depending on what you sell, and to whom, one will suit you better than the others.
I have used all three. So rather than drown you in my impressions, I will give you what can be checked: their models, their prices, their turnaround times, their terms. Print quality, on the other hand, I will let you judge for yourself, sample in hand. You will see why at the end.

The little secret: Printify and Printful are in the same family
A quick aside before we get into it. On October 23, 2026, I typed “printify ou printful” into Google from France, and it suggested “merger” and “new name”. That is no accident.
Printify and Printful merged. The group is now called FYUL, and it brings together Printful, Printify and Snow Commerce.
Yes, the two names everyone pits against each other live under the same roof.
Does that change your choice? Not really. Printify says so itself on its comparison page: the two brands remain separate and operate as two distinct services. Two websites, two catalogs, two ways of making things. A little wink all the same: in Printify’s list of print providers, you will find… Printful.
| Date | What happened |
|---|---|
| November 5, 2024 | Printful announces the merger with Printify |
| November 14, 2024 | The merger takes effect, according to the US tax form of both companies |
| Today | The group is called FYUL; Printify and Printful remain two distinct services |
“The two names everyone pits against each other live under the same roof. But you are still choosing between two ways of making things.”

A marketplace, a workshop, a dispatcher
This is the key to the whole article. If you remember only one thing, remember these three words.
Printify is a marketplace. It makes nothing itself: it introduces you to more than 70 print providers, which it says it vets and ranks on quality, speed and shipping. Choosing yours is up to you, product by product. And that choice changes everything: price, production location, turnaround. Would you rather not choose? Its Printify Choice feature does it for you, order by order.
Printful is a workshop. It makes products itself, for the most part, in seven centers of its own: Riga, Barcelona, Birmingham, Charlotte, Dallas, Tijuana and Toronto. Partners fill in, in Brazil, Japan and Australia, and for some products. You do not pick the facility: Printful generally ships from the one closest to your customer, after what it presents as a three-step quality check.
Gelato is a dispatcher. It does not make products either, but it does not let you pick the printer: it hands each order to a local printer in its network, based on the shipping address. It advertises local production in 32 countries.
Do you like having control over everything? The marketplace. Do you want a company that makes things itself? The workshop. Do you sell everywhere and want production close to every customer? The dispatcher.
| Printify | Printful | Gelato | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who makes it? | More than 70 third-party print providers | Its seven facilities, plus partners | Local printers in its network |
| Who picks the facility? | You, or Printify Choice | Printful, generally the one closest to the customer | Gelato, based on the shipping address |
| Where? | Mostly in the United States, also in Europe and elsewhere | Europe and North America, plus partners | 32 countries |

Free to start, and then?
Good news: all three are free. You pay nothing to create products or connect your store. You pay for the product and shipping when a customer orders, and that is it. Printify explains that it earns a margin on that price, with no platform fees; Gelato, that it charges no commission.
Then each one pushes its paid plan, with advertised discounts of 20 to 33% on products. A nice touch from Printful: it covers its Growth plan for a year once you pass $12,000 in annual sales.
Should you pay from day one? My take: no. A discount on product prices only pays off once you are selling. Until your sales are steady, the free plan does the job just fine. And keep an eye on prices, because they move: Printify raised its monthly Premium price from $29 to $39 on February 17, 2026.
| Printify | Printful | Gelato | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free plan | Yes, 5 stores | Yes, unlimited stores | Yes, 2 stores |
| Paid plan | Premium: from $39 a month, from $24.99 billed yearly | Growth: $24.99 a month | Gelato+: $29.99 a month, $19.99 billed yearly |
| In euros | From €34.99 a month | €24.99 a month | €27.99 a month, €19.99 billed yearly |
| Advertised discount | Up to 20%, on most products | Up to 33% | Up to 33%, in selected countries |
The price of a t-shirt: why I will not name a winner
Now, price. This is where everyone wants a number. And this is where I am going to disappoint you a little.
Take the Bella+Canvas 3001, which all three offer and which Printify counts among its two most popular products. Printify lists it at $10.98 on its t-shirt page. And at $11.29 on its comparison page, on the same day. Printify does not explain the gap; just keep in mind that, at Printify, the price depends on the print provider you choose and on your plan.
At Printful, the product page shows me, from France, €12.55 including VAT, one print included. Did you notice? The two prices are not even in the same currency: dollars on one side, euros including VAT on the other. And at Gelato, the price varies by country, with each region’s production and shipping costs: I am not going to give you a number taken out of context.
So, compare down to the cent? Honestly, it is pointless. The price moves with size, color and plan. Shipping comes on top. The only comparison that counts is your product, delivered to your typical customer, at the price shown when you order.
| Printify | Printful | Gelato | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Listed price | $10.98 or $11.29 depending on the page | €12.55 including VAT, seen from France | Depends on the production country |
| Shipping | On top | On top | On top |
Where it is made, and how long it takes
This is where the three models really show.
With Printify’s marketplace, everything depends on the print provider. Most are in the United States, but there are also some in Europe (United Kingdom, Germany, France, Czech Republic, Latvia, the Netherlands), Canada, Australia, Mexico, China and India. Its help center talks about 2 to 7 business days before shipping for most orders. Its About page promises less; I go with the more cautious figure.
Printful’s workshop advertises 2 to 5 business days of production, and 86% of orders fulfilled in the same region as the customer.
Gelato’s dispatcher says 90% of orders arrive within 5 days, production included. And it publishes a guarantee with numbers: delivery within 5 business days, or 20% of the order refunded, and a full refund beyond 10 business days. Plus a refund if the quality does not satisfy you, reported with a photo within 30 days.
There is a catch: these guarantees only cover cards, calendars, photo books, posters and canvas prints, in eleven countries, including France and the United States (for delivery, excluding Corsica and overseas territories, and excluding Alaska and Hawaii). For everything else, at all three, turnaround times are estimates. Before you promise a date to a customer, check the one shown when you order.
| Printify | Printful | Gelato | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Advertised time | 2 to 7 business days before shipping, for most orders | 2 to 5 business days of production | 90% of orders delivered within 5 days |
| Close to the customer? | Depends on the print provider | 86% of orders in their region | Local production in 32 countries |
| Guarantee with numbers | Times given as estimates | Times given as estimates | Delivery and quality, on certain products, in 11 countries |
Shipping, the cost everyone forgets
At all three, shipping is paid on top of the product, when the order goes to the supplier. And each one calculates it its own way.
Printify lists several options: Standard from $4.75, delivered in 2 to 5 business days within the United States at most print providers, and Economy from $3.99 on selected products.
Printful uses flat rates by product category: for a t-shirt, its page showed €4.49 to Europe and €4.69 to the United States. Gelato uses regional flat rates for a wide range of products, the same price to every country in a zone; outside flat rates, the price depends on the country and the shipping method.
A tip if your customers are mostly in Europe: check where your product will be made. A t-shirt printed in the United States and delivered to France has a long trip ahead of it.
| Printify | Printful | Gelato | |
|---|---|---|---|
| The calculation | Depends on the print provider and the option chosen | Flat rate by product category | Regional flat rate, for a wide range |
| One more item | Usually cheaper, from the same print provider | T-shirt: +€1.25 to Europe, +€2.10 to the United States | A dedicated rate per additional item |

Where to sell: a tie, or close to it
On the essentials, it is a perfect tie. All three connect to Etsy, Shopify and WooCommerce, as well as Wix, Squarespace and BigCommerce.
The differences are at the margins: Amazon, eBay and TikTok Shop, depending on the country. And if you sell on a less common platform, Printful shows the longest list: 22 integrations, including Square Online, Ecwid and Nuvemshop.
My launch advice does not change: one door to start with. If that door is Etsy, any of the three will do.
| Printify | Printful | Gelato | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Etsy, Shopify, WooCommerce | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Wix, Squarespace, BigCommerce | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Amazon | Yes | Yes | In beta, for US sellers |
| eBay | Yes | Yes | No direct integration |
| TikTok Shop | United States | United States, United Kingdom | United States, United Kingdom |
Your brand, your mockups: the extras
Your brand on the package, first. Printify offers it with only a few print providers. Printful also offers custom inserts and packaging. Gelato ships unbranded, in plain packaging, with no invoice in the box, and keeps its branded inserts and labels for Gelato+, for posters, in nine countries.
Mockups, next. All three offer them for free, with an editor. AI-generated mockups, on the other hand, are reserved for paid plans at both Printify and Gelato. Printify does offer a free AI image generator, with 15 attempts a day.
A detail hidden in the terms: at Printful and Gelato, these mockups are only meant to sell their own products.
Should you worry about this at the start? Not really. Branding on the package becomes useful when customers come back, and you want them to remember your name.
| Printify | Printful | Gelato | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Labels | Printed neck label, from $0.55 | Inside $0.99, outside $2.49 | Inside labels on some apparel; branded labels on posters, with Gelato+ |
| Inserts | $0.25, or $0.15 with Premium | Yes, with fees | Posters only, with Gelato+ |
| Free mockups | Unlimited, watermark-free | Unlimited downloads | To display; downloads with Gelato+ |

The sample, the only real judge
Here is the most important piece of advice in this article.
No page will tell you the real print quality. Not mine, not theirs. Only a sample can.
Do not count on a free sample, though. Printify and Gelato state that they do not offer them, and Printful advertises a discount, with a connected store and a number of orders that grows with your sales. At Gelato, the welcome discount only applies if you order within 48 hours of signing up; after that, it runs occasional discounts at different times of the year.
| Printify | Printful | Gelato | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What is advertised | No free samples | 20% off | No free samples, but a discount |
| The details | Regular price, even with Premium | One order per month, up to 3 items to start | 30% off the first order within 48 hours, capped at €50 off |

The three at a glance
Everything above, in a single table. This one is worth keeping handy.
| Printify | Printful | Gelato | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Model | A marketplace of more than 70 print providers | A workshop: seven facilities of its own, plus partners | A dispatcher: local printers in 32 countries |
| Catalog | More than 2,000 products | 589 products | “Hundreds”, from apparel to wall art |
| Free | 5 stores | Unlimited stores | 2 stores |
| Paid plan | Premium, from $39 a month | Growth, $24.99 a month | Gelato+, $29.99 a month |
| Advertised time | 2 to 7 business days before shipping | 2 to 5 business days of production | 90% delivered within 5 days |
| Sample | Regular price | 20% off | 30% off the first time, within 48 hours |
My verdict, depending on your profile
So, which one? Here is how I would decide, depending on your situation.
You are opening your first store: pick the one that lets you publish tonight. Seriously. You can switch, or add a second one, later. Today, the goal is to publish, not to optimize.
You want the widest choice and you like comparing: Printify, with control over price and production location. You want a company that makes things itself: Printful, with its own facilities and a plan covered for a year once your sales take off. You sell posters, cards or wall art all over the world: Gelato, with its delivery and quality guarantees on those products.
And in every case: order a sample before you sell.
| Your profile | My pick |
|---|---|
| First store | The one that lets you publish tonight |
| The widest choice, and a taste for comparing | Printify |
| A company that makes things itself | Printful |
| Posters, cards, wall art, all over the world | Gelato |
“The best supplier is the one that lets you publish tonight. Quality, on the other hand, is judged from a sample.”

So where does MagicMoon fit in?
One last aside, I promise. MagicMoon is not a supplier: it is the studio that comes before. You describe your designs there, the AI generates them with a transparent background, and you place them on Printify or Gelato products. The product listing is written in the language of your choice, and publishing goes to your Shopify, Etsy or WooCommerce store through your supplier.
If you choose Printful, MagicMoon does not connect to it today. The account is free with no credit card: it lets you explore the whole journey in demo mode. To generate your designs for real, you choose a plan or a one-off top-up.
